In 2001 Netball Bay of Plenty wanted a way to recognize and reward netballers and volunteers who had made contributions to the game at the Secondary School and Centre levels. What began as a modest evening at the Te Puke Golf Club with 90 people has today become a much more professional event with with 350 people attending the annual event to celebrate achievement within the Bay of Plenty. Sponsors for prizes were found for the various categories in 2001and all of these sponsors along with the additional prize donors required remain in 2007.
In 2005 sponsorship of the actual event began with the Kingsgate in Rotorua taking on the sponsorship of the event and Logotech becoming the Open and School Category Sponsors. Centres and Secondary Schools are encouraged to present nominations in each of the categories and the judging panel drawn from around the region then determine the finalists and winners.
