- Remember players are there because they enjoy the sport so always try and incorporate a fun element to your sessions
- Remember to have fun yourself, players will relate to you better if they see your personality coming through in your coaching
- It's important to build relationships with your players, take the time to get to know them as a player and also a person, it'll help you to understand how to get the best out of them as a player
- Remember no-ones perfect, we all make mistakes, have the confidence to admit when you're wrong, learn from it and move on!
- Never stop learning, none of us know everything there is to know about netball so try and always improve your coaching. This may be attending courses, sharing ideas with otherr coaches, having a mentor or just watching some games and try and put yourself in the shoes of the coach of that team, what would you do?
- Plan for sessions but have the confidence to change them according to the needs of the players and situation of that session.
- Try not to do the same thing, the players will get bored and so will you, it's better to try something new and it doesn't work than to keep doing the same old thing!!
- Be confident, we all have something to give as a coach, you probably know more than you think you do!!
- Provide opportunities for player input into trainings.
- Ask questions, challenge players thinking so that they begin to reflect on the what, when and why they do things on court.
- Allow players the time to discuss how they will do things as opposed to telling them. Yes it takes longer however the benefits for the individuals and team are ten fold.
